Do you create a vision board for your brand? I’d down them here and there in school, but never really took them seriously, until recently.

Last year was my first full year in full time entrepreneurship, and the first time I created an intentional vision board for my business. You can check out my first one here. I kept it on my desk so I could always see while I was working. I believe creating this vision board helped me stay focused on my goals, and although I didn’t accomplish everything, I saw quite a bit of come to fruition!

If you’ve thought about creating a vision board this year, I encourage you to do it! Here’s why:

3 Reasons to Create a Vision Board

1. It helps you move with intention. When I sat down to create the board, I made me think about what I wanted my life to look like that year. I didn’t want to move aimlessly, doing randomness without knowing why I was doing it.

2. It keeps you focused on your goals for the future. Entrepreneurship isn’t for the faint of heart! There are highs and the lows can be discouraging at times. Keeping the vision in front of me kept my mind on why I started my business in the first place.

3. It gets you excited about what’s to come. Belief and hope can really keep my engine going! Creating a board of things that I want to see in my life gives me something to look forward to.

Now that you have your why, here’s how to create your vision board!

How to Create a Vision Board

Estimated time to complete: 2 hours

What you’ll need:

Step 1: Write down your word for the year. If you need help thinking of a word, let me know! I’d love to brainstorm ideas with you. You can also think of the main action you want to take in your life and business. Mine is BUILD.

Step 2: Write down 7-10 goals that you want to accomplish this year. It can be as simple as getting more organized or as complex as doubling your income. Write it down!

Step 3: Get a poster board of any size, but large enough to put in your workspace or somewhere in your home that you frequent. You can pick them up at Target, Amazon or your local grocery store. I also love cork boards as they can be reused year over year.

Get scissors, glue or pins if you decide to get a cork board. Then get magazines that you relate to. For example, I chose a home magazine, a lifestyle magazine and one that reflects my culture. I’d add one more that relates to family, since that’s a big part of my life.

Step 4: Carefully flip through the pages of each magazine, and cut out words, images and colors that reflect your vision for the year. It’s so much fun to see it take shape!

Step 5: Glue each cutout on the board in scrapbook style. You want to paste them relatively close together, so you don’t run out of space on the board.

Step 6: Hang up your board in your workspace! Don’t forget to look at as often as you want. Use it for daily encouragement and motivation.
